The construction sector is responsible for the buildings and infrastructure that are the foundation of daily life, and the global economy and Shell is proud to be a partner for change in decarbonising the construction industry.

Building for the future

At Shell, we have a long history of supporting the construction sector. From decades of providing fuels and lubricants to construction fleets and machinery, to supplying innovative bitumen solutions for road construction for over a century – we are passionate about collaborating with our customers and partners as they build the world around us.

As part of Shell’s transformation of its business customer units to help lead change in the energy transition, Shell Construction and Road was created to accelerate decarbonisation in the construction sector. Building on our wide-ranging experience as an energy partner, Shell is using all its capabilities and solutions – bituminous binders, fuels, lubricants, energy solutions, digital services - to convene, collaborate, and catalyse change.

More sustainable construction solutions across the value chain

Net-zero construction requires emissions’ reduction from across the entire value chain, from raw materials and plant operations to transport and on-site construction. At each stage, our goal is to provide our partners with the low carbon tools and solutions they need.

This means we are leveraging our strong bitumen business, our expertise in low-carbon fuels and cleaner energy solutions so we can be a decarbonisation partner for construction companies along the entire value chain, helping to enable more sustainable construction activities.

Contributing to the circular economy

Improving circularity is a key lever in the construction sector’s decarbonisation efforts. From fuels to bitumen and beyond, Shell has years of experience innovating more resource-efficient products and finding new and improved solutions across sectors.

Our ambition is to use, and help our partners use, resources and materials efficiently in a way that does not compromise end-quality. By designing materials and products to last longer and be reused, repurposed, and recycled, we are helping to reduce pressure on the world’s resources. Our participation in industry coalitions like Alliance to end Plastic Waste means we are well placed to inform and input into solutions that will accelerate the circular economy in construction.

Your partner through the energy transition

No single company can solve construction’s decarbonisation challenge. We must overcome the complex and fragmented nature of the construction sector and bring all parties together to act.

Shell plays three roles in the energy transition: we are an energy supplier, an energy user, and a partner for change, putting us in a strong position to enable collaboration across the breadth of the construction value chain. Shell Construction and Road works closely with our customers and the industry to develop tailored low carbon and circular solutions to help solve their unique decarbonisation challenges.
