The construction industry is one of the largest in the world, accounting for 13% of the world’s GDP1. Employing millions of people, the sector plays a vital role in the social and economic progress. However, construction is one of the fastest growing sources of emissions and must accelerate action on decarbonisation through active participation in the energy transition, through innovation, and collaboration.

As part of Shell’s transformation of its customer business units to help lead the change in the energy transition, a new business was created that offers specific sectoral experience and deep industry knowledge for the construction industry – Shell Construction and Road.

Shell Construction and Road aims to leverage our strong bitumen business, our expertise in low-carbon fuels and cleaner energy solutions to be the partner of choice for decarbonising construction and support the construction companies to reduce their emissions along the value chain.

Shell believes the construction industry can achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, but action must be taken now. Decarbonising construction requires using all available measures at each stage of the value chain. It also involves coming together as an industry to develop lower carbon solutions, promote circularity, and work alongside policymakers and regulators to implement supportive policy frameworks.

Shell Construction and Road is ready to collaborate with all parties involved in the decarbonising construction journey. We’re committed to confronting construction’s carbon challenge, together with our partners.
